Meta temporarily suspended the prominent Instagram account of the pro-democracy group No Kings for four hours during an early voting campaign ahead of the midterm elections. The disruption occurred right at the peak of the coalition’s activities. Meta representative Andy Stone explained that the account had utilized a Claude AI tool, which caused automated systems to flag the activity as bot-like behavior. Although an automated review identified the mistake within an hour, additional technical hurdles prevented administrators from regaining access immediately.

Following the incident, a group of fourteen attorneys general alongside state and federal lawmakers demanded a detailed explanation from Meta regarding its enforcement actions. The social media company reached out to No Kings, offering a meeting with a technical expert to clarify the error. However, the coalition rejected this proposal, stating that it failed to address their ongoing concerns, and insisted on meeting directly with Meta's senior leadership instead.

The No Kings organization emphasized that the situation extends beyond their specific account, arguing that American voters need firm assurances that political content will not be suppressed during the critical election period. In a list of eight questions presented to the platform, the coalition specifically asked Meta to publicly disclose if there had been any communications with the Trump administration concerning the account suspension or the historic early voting events.
