VitVio, a US-European startup, is launching its AI-powered surgical operating system, Vetro, at the University Clinical Centre in Gdańsk, Poland, to automate tasks and monitor operating room performance.

VitVio, founded in 2024 by Thomas Knox, Dr. Peter Rennert, Maks Kozarzewski, and Aleks Pajewski, is introducing its Vetro system to Poland through a partnership with UCK Gdańsk. Vetro uses AI and ambient sensing to create real-time 3D representations of operating rooms, automating tasks such as logging surgical milestones and identifying delays.

The initial deployment at UCK Gdańsk will involve a small number of operating rooms in orthopaedics and neurosurgery. Each room will be equipped with multiple cameras and sensors to capture spatial information, which VitVio's Spatial Context Engine processes to create a live 3D model of the room.

Vetro's technology is designed to recognize surgical activities and their progression without identifying individual clinicians. The company will establish a baseline before evaluating the pilot's impact on operating room performance, focusing on metrics like throughput, on-time first starts, and turnover time.

Analysis: The deployment of Vetro at UCK Gdańsk represents a significant step in the integration of AI technology in surgical settings, potentially improving efficiency and reducing administrative burdens on clinical teams.
